Who are the Lay Dominicans?

The Dominican Order, as any other Order, is a gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church that from its foundation had counted among its members both religious and laity. The Lay Dominicans therefore share in the Dominican charism and are an integral part of the Dominican Order.

The Lay Dominicans make promises to follow The Rule of the Lay Chapters of St. Dominic and the Particular Directory of the Province in which they live. They meet in a community regularly and participate with the friars, nuns, and sisters, as well as the Church in general, in praying the Liturgy of the Hours. They engage in active apostolate at the service of the local church and the kingdom of God.

Where and when do we meet?

We meet on the first and third Sundays of every month from 7 to 10 pm.

Venue:

St. Francisco de Capillas’ House

Singapore 557285
Phone: 6282 8227

What do we do?

We have two main objectives:

  • to be more familiar with Dominican spirituality and
  • to be more acquainted with the role of the laity in the Church and more concretely in the local church of Singapore.

We pray

  • We begin with the sessions with recitation of Vespers and conclude them with Compline.

We study

  • about Dominicans. The important Lay Dominicans (first Sundays) and the other Dominicans who have made a difference in their respective times (third Sundays)
  • about the role of the laity in the Church and about Dominican Spirituality and its fruitfulness in the Church.
