St. Mark, the Evangelist

Each evangelist wrote a version of the only gospel. Each one of the four according to his own style. We preserve only four versions of the canonical gospels because those four and only those four reflect what the church believes. But they are not the only versions of the gospel.

Each one of us lives according to a non-canonical gospel. We write with our lives a set of beliefs, practices, responses and hopes that reflect our particular faith.

There is only one gospel but there are many versions or many ways of telling the story of Jesus so that it becomes a journey of faith. Mark wrote his version. We are writing ours. Let our versions be a beautiful account of Jesus’ journey through the world.
