Our works tell about us: 4th Tuesday of Easter

Sometimes we wonder who we really are. At times we seem to have so many masks that we forget where the real “me” is. How can we tell the real from the false ‘me’??

How can you really know someone? Listen to what he says? See his intentions? See how he feels? Listen to his dreams? Only our choices reveal who we really are. What we love reveals the kind of person we are. What we choose to do is what reveals our true self.

“Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me” (Jn 10:25). The works of Jesus testified who He really was. Our works show who we really are.

Prayer for Vocations

Lord Jesus Christ, you called the Apostles to be fishers of men.

Raise up new apostles in your Church today.

Fire the hearts of our young people with burning love for all humanity.

Make them eager to spread the Good News of your kingdom here on earth.

Grant them courage to follow you, the way, the truth and the life.

May your mother, Mary, Queen of the Rosary,

obtain for her Order of Preachers faithful followers of St. Dominic.

May they be holy and zealous.

Make them true servants of salvation

for their brothers and sisters.

You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.

Living life to the full: 4th Monday of Easter

In contrast with the thieves, Jesus is the gate. Thieves come to kill the sheep. They seek their own good and not the good of the sheep.

In contrast with the “hired shepherds”, Jesus is the good shepherd. Hired shepherds may not kill the sheep like thieves do but they will certainly not care for them as much as the sheep need to be cared for. A hired shepherd is not good enough to keep the sheep in one fold and the sheep scatter.

The promise of giving life abundantly (Jn 10:10) to the sheep comes along with the unity of the flock: “only one flock under one shepherd.” All are looking to live life to the fullest, the question is, “What kind of life is that life?” The gospel only gives clues. It is under that one shepherd and in one flock.

How good are we at discerning good from hired shepherds? How good are we at gathering instead of scattering?
